This years competition was teams of 4, and this time we asked members to provide their team names! We had 'Dancing Cleans', 'AMRAP (as much rest as possible)', 'Mobility Scooters', 'Prowler Mary', and 'Team SODA'. With the teams decided, it was on to the workouts...   Event 1: To me, to you Our first event required teams to split in to twos and your scores were combined at the end. Plus there was a time penalty if you knocked the bar off when you went under the first and last obstacle!   Event 3: Six rep max A lot of peoples favourite part...the strength event! This was a combined six rep max. 2 team members find a 2 rep max touch and go clean 2 team members find a 1 length max sled drag The highest weights on the day was a 90kg clean for Kyle and a 67.5kg clean for Amber, meanwhile the heaviest sled drag belonged to David at 235kg!   Event 4: Hold on The final event and one where teamwork was needed and the tactics came out! Sports Day 2023

Sports Day 2023

Watch the video here: trainfitnessstudio.co.uk/train-sports-day/   A day designed to bring the whole community together with fun, fitness and food, all taking place at our gym based in the heart of Sandbach! We invited all members, friends and family to join us for a day not to be missed. With five events taking place throughout the day, everyone arrived excited and curious to find out the events and the exercises they’d be taking on. After revealing our four teams (named after our famous gym doggos, Coco, Dudley, Fudge and Button), the race was on to be crowned TRAIN Sports Day champions!   Event 1: Slow & Steady Our first event was a twist on the classic…the egg and spoon race. Only our members had some obstacles to master on their route, including three pirouettes around cones, and weaving their way around the rig, before a race to the finish line, releasing their next team member. The fastest time would win first place and five points for their team.   Event 2: Criss-Cross You’ve all heard of noughts and crosses before right?! But maybe not quite like this… The second event of the day brought out the more competitive side of our members with a TRAIN favourite often used as a warm up game for our classes. A simple game of noughts and crosses turned into a mini tournament. The first team member needed to be quick off the start line to grab their colour plate and get the first spot on the grid before running back to tag in the next person. Teams had to get three plates in a row to win a game, and if they came out on top after 3 games, they secured a place in the final and the chance to claim victory on event 2.   Event 3: Cardi-oh-no! In a shock twist, event 3 was a more traditional gym workout, consisting of three exercises, testing which team had the best cardio capacity (the clue was in the name really!). In 15 minutes, teams had to get the highest amount of reps possible (AMRAP) with only three team members working at once: one on a rower, one on a ski-erg, and one performing dreaded burpees! During this event our members completed 1150 burpees and burnt 1936 calories on the cardio machines.   Event 4: Push Here a HIIT class favourite appeared…the prowler. But you either love this exercise, or hate it! Not only that, but could your team keep it moving for 15 minutes, whilst finding your 5 rep max shoulder to overhead. Testing strength, skill, endurance and tactics, as teams picked their own prowler weights and plotted a way to win. Scores were calculated by your prowler distance in lengths, times by reps, and added to the total weight your team lifted overhead. During this event the prowler was pushed 420 lengths, a distance of 10250 feet and 1813 kilograms was lifted overhead!   Event 5: The TRAIN Relay The final event, and a mixture of movements to challenge members in the form of a relay race. One at a time members had to climb over our 48 inch wall before crawling under the cargo net, and edging closer to the skipping skill section. Here members had a choice: 30 single unders, 20 crossovers, or 10 double unders. Once complete, they had to pick a sandbag and carry it over the finish line so their next team member could start. The fastest team to get all the sandbags (a total of 505kg) would end of a high, with the last event win of the day.   The After-Party Following an amazing day of exercise, we welcomed everyone back to the gym later that evening for a get together trading burpees for burgers. A TRAIN barbecue with food, drinks, and games allowing everyone to socialise and reflect on a fantastic and eventful day. And not forgetting the winners ceremony, where we showcased some action shots from the day and revealed the final leaderboards, and the winning team… …Team Button, with team captain Rachael, were our TRAIN Sports Day 2023 Champions! They claimed their prize along with bragging rights over the rest of the gym (and Sandbach!), until next year at least!

Tough Mudder 2023

Tough Mudder 2023

In September team TRAIN took on Tough Mudder for the fifth year running! This year we had a team of 17 taking part at Cholmondey Castle, on what was a hot day (around 25 degrees celsius) so for once they were grateful to see the 'Arctic Enema' (ice bath)! In the gym we often get a few moans if we make them run 1km around Sandbach, or when we put seal walks in our warm ups. But here everyone had volunteered to run 15km and crawl through the 'Sewer Rat', and if you've done this before, you know seal walks are the easier option! Well done everyone who took part! More muddy fitness next year?

Sandbach 10k 2023

Sandbach 10k 2023

Earlier this year we decided that we wanted to get involved and support a local fitness event, and straight away the one that sprung to mind was the Sandbach 10k taking place in August, less than two miles away from our gym located by Sandbach train station. So we organised with Sandbach Striders for TRAIN to sponsor the event, and in the lead up to this, we encouraged our own members to sign up too! Our classes then prepared our members for race day with a combination of strength and fitness elements that also included running! On the day of the event, TRAIN provided the 400 runners with their pre race warm up, with some light stretching and dynamic movements to get everyone moving. Plus we incorporated a squat Mexican wave! A combination of members and coaches from the gym made up our three TRAIN pacesetters, meaning runners could try and follow them knowing what pace they were running at, and the time they would finish in. TRAIN had over 20 members take part in the Sandbach 10k and for a few of them, this was their first ever race of this distance! Sandbach Striders who organised the event managed to raise £2268 for their chosen club charity, Chance Changing Lives.  Keep an eye out for us next year too!

The Open 2023

The Open 2023

This year we had just over 30 people taking part in The CrossFit Open. Both coaches and members alike took this as an opportunity to push themselves and find out where their strength and fitness levels were currently at. The atmosphere on the Saturdays for each event was incredible with everyone helping to motivate each other to push past their individual limits. In 23.1 we had over 10 members achieve their first ever T2B! In 23.2 several members achieved their first burpee pullups including Charlotte who was aiming for just one...she got thirty!  In 23.3, Sophie amongst others, achieved her first RX wall walks! For our coaches, this was Dan and Eden's first Open and both of them achieved PB's and achieved more than they thought they would. Luke finished in the top 15% in the UK and Europe, making it his best open yet. But John secured a top 10% finish in Europe meaning he qualified for the quarterfinals! New PB's and benchmarks all set, time to work on areas of improvement ready for retesting!

Members’ comps 2023

From training in Sandbach to competing at the Etihad! Here you can read a little bit about our members journeys to various competitions throughout the year, everything from scaled events to elite! In January, six of our gym members took on their first competition at M Squared Fitness. Amber, Libby, Kirtsty, Tilly, Adam and Russ all competed in the pairs scaled division, finishing 10th, 13th, and 17th. In July we returned to M Squared Fitness as we had coach Eden and Olivia taking on their first competition, alongside Kirsty and Tilly who competed again and finished 4th in the final of the scaled division! In August, Libby and Amber took on 'The Butterfly Effect' in Manchester. A competition designed to celebrate your body and raise money and awareness for people with eating disorders and body image issues. They took on 4 partner workouts throughout the day, from 80 handstand push ups to 52 calories on the echo bike (and a lot more in-between!), finishing 10th in the intermediate division. In September, four members, Jack, Kyle, Adam and Russ took on ATHX North where their combined 10rep max back squats was  440kg. Plus within this competion on the 1 rep max shoulder to overhead, two of them achieved a PB and the other two equalled their PB's! In November, we visited the Etihad for The Rainhill Trials, where four members competed in the RX division, including Libby who made it to the final and finished 10th!
