Most Improved Beginner 2023

At our Annual TRAIN Christmas party, we gave out some awards that recognised our members’ hard work. 

Phil has made incredible progress since joining us and won our “most improved beginner 2023” award.

So in case you’re still on the fence about starting your own fitness journey, and need a bit of motivation, here’s Phil’s story in his own words:

“My personal fitness journey started back in the spring of 2022 after a series of health scares. For more years than I care to remember I led a sedentary life; long working hours sat behind a desk combined with a daily commutes of over 130 miles, not enough sleep and thirty cigarettes per day took its toll resulting in a period of hospitalisation; things needed to change!

I quit smoking and decided to have a go at completing the couch to 5k challenge, a twelve week program that concluded in continuously running for thirty minutes and/or covering a distance of 5 kilometres…..in reality the twelve week program to me 32 weeks to complete!

Now being a self convert to health and fitness I wanted to push myself to a new challenge and that’s when my wife suggested I joined a gym. To be honest her suggestion didn’t fill me with enthusiasm, me, joining a gym, at my age, I don’t think so! Gyms are full of young , fit and healthy people, a description that most certainly didn’t match me! And besides, I didn’t know how to use any of the equipment and I would probably end up lifting a few weights for a few months and eventually give up…..how wrong I was!!!

My wife saw a post on Facebook recommending Train Fitness Studio in Sandbach and suggested I checked it out. She said it was different to other gyms in that their focus was on providing fitness classes that promoted fitness in a fun and engaging way, challenging individual and team performance in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust for each member’s level of fitness and capability. 

Still holding my general deep rooted mistrust of gyms I decided to go along to a series of beginners classes, not necessarily to set me on a path of improved physical health but to prove to my wife (and myself) that my long held beliefs were valid…..how wrong I was!!!!

After a four week period of beginners classes I officially joined Train Fitness Studio, that was eight months ago and my life has changed inextricably since then! The care and attention Luke, Dan, Eden and my fellow gym members have afforded me has been truly incredible. My journey to improved physical health and wellbeing has been one of the most enjoyable and rewarding experiences of my life, and for that I will be forever grateful to each and every member of the Train family, thank you all!

For good or bad life tends to throw challenges to each and everyone of us, often when we least expect it; I’m happy to say that going forwards the support, camaraderie and commitment I have experienced at Train will stand me in good stead for all those challenges that will surely come my way!!
